SUN Bucks 2025

SUN Bucks, also known as Summer EBT, is a program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get a one-time benefit of $120 per year for each eligible child to help buy groceries during the summer months. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meal programs. Receiving SUN Bucks will not affect children or families' immigration status. For families who were pre-approved in January or applied and received a notice of approval since the application opened, benefits were recently distributed as follows (based on the primary applicant’s, not the child’s, last name): May 28 – A to G, May 29 – H to M, May 30 – N to S, May 31: T to Z. The one-time $120 benefit per eligible child was put onto a new or the household’s existing EBT card. For those that have not yet applied, the SUN Bucks application is available until 5 pm on August 29, 2025. Visit SUNBucks.dcf.ks.gov for more information.

Benefits of Taking AP Classes

There are many advantages to taking an AP class. Through college-level AP courses, you enter a universe of knowledge that might otherwise remain unexplored in high school; through AP Exams, you have the opportunity to earn credit or advanced standing at most of the nation's colleges and universities.

The only requirements are a strong curiosity about the subject you plan to study and the willingness to work hard. Here are just a few reasons to sign up:

  • Wamego High School offers eight Advanced Placement classes

  • Advanced Placement classes are taught at the college level by WHS teachers who have had AP training. 

  • Teachers are required to submit their syllabus and curriculum yearly to ensure that the designed courses are the quality of AP Course requirements and to preserve the use of the "AP" designation for courses that provide college-level rigor for students.

  • Students can begin enrolling in Advanced Placement classes as early as their sophomore year.  Some of the AP classes require summer reading before the semester the class starts.  Individual teachers assign material in the spring if it is required for the upcoming fall semester.

  • Students earn an additional grade point toward their g.p.a. for AP classes.  For example, if a student earns a B in an AP class, they earn 4 points for that class rather than 3.  The letter grade that is earned shows on the transcript, but the grade point average is weighted.

  • Students have the option in the spring semester to take the standardized Advanced Placement course exam which could possibly count as college credit. Current cost for an exam is $97 (2023), but fee waivers may be available for students who qualify. Students have the opportunity to take practice exams as part of the class curriculum.
